Overview

Matt joined Anderson & Kreiger in 2022 after graduating from Boston College Law School. Although his primary practice groups are Litigation, Internal Investigations, and White-Collar Defense & Government Enforcement, he also has experience with Municipal Law and Airports. Matt has also taken on a variety of pro bono matters involving housing, civil rights, and immigration.

In law school, Matt was a member of the Black Law Students Association, Vice President of the Student Veterans Association, and co-President of the Criminal Law Society. He worked for the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division (Educational Opportunities Section). Mat also briefly interned for Oxfam America, where he helped analyze legal action against government officials involved in Mozambique’s “Hidden Debt Scandal.”  Before attending law school, Matt served in the United States Army.

BEYOND THE OFFICE

Matt lives along the south shore. He enjoys playing rugby, biking New England’s rail trails, and reading about history. Matt hopes to one day complete a triathlon.

Experience

  • Conducted or assisted in investigations involving civil rights (Titles IV, VI, and IX), racial, gender, and sexual orientation discrimination, and sexual harassment for private and public sector clients in higher education, finance, and commerce.
  • Litigated appeals of municipal orders by Boards of Health and Historic District Commissions.
  • Obtained a settlement from a large, multinational corporation in a lawsuit under the Massachusetts Consumer Protection statute, G.L. c. 93A.
  • Assisted with complex commercial litigation involving federal, state, and local statutes and regulation.
  • Helped advise the Boston City Counsel in a lawsuit concerning new and draft electoral maps.
  • Part of an A&K team that provided advice and guidance to a Massachusetts agency entering a new regulatory arena.
  • Advised and intervened on behalf of municipal clients in receipt of contentious Public Records Requests.
  • Successfully defended Chiefs of Police of multiple towns in appeals of License to Carry suspensions.
  • Part of a team tracking and providing advice on various lawsuits concerning executive orders from the current administration.
  • Represented airport in administrative and judicial appeals of FAA Part 77 Determinations of Hazard for on-airport construction that led to settlement and issuance of Determinations of No Hazard.

Pro Bono

  • Represented and advised an asylum applicant before the Chelmsford Immigration Court.
  • Represented a mother and child against a school district after the child was unlawfully restrained in secluded by a School Resource Officer, obtaining a settlement for the family.
  • Drafted and submitted a clemency petition before the Parole Board on behalf of an incarcerated individual.
  • Represented a woman and mother in public housing against the housing authority, seeking to recover for severe health and safety issues at the family residence.
  • Assisted the A&K team working on longstanding tobacco and vaping litigation.
